Is that my fish?!?

Last November, my boyfriend and I traveled to Kona, HI for some Blue Marlin fishing. This was my first "real" deep sea charter, and I was hopeful that one of us would be lucky to get a marlin. Day 1 turned out to be very unsuccessful, only one strike, but never hooked up. We left dock on day 2 by 7am. Within in 25 minutes, just as Capt. Dee (the owner/operator of the High Noon) set lines, we had a strike! My boyfriend excitedly told me to jump in the chair and buckle in. I was ready to rock as I gripped the pole. The fish ran like heck, and all of a sudden jumped out of the water 7 times! In amazement of what I was watching, I questioned, "Is that my fish?!?!" YES!! Capt. Dee and Bryan shouted. I couldn't believe it and started reeling him in as hard as I could. I was getting a work out and a half from that Marlin. My arms were burning, sweat dripping in my eyes, a few strands of my hair even got caught in the reel, but I had to keep fighting and couldn't quit! I felt exhausted and like I had nothing left in me, especially since the fish took a second hard run after I had gotten him so close to the boat. After about a half hour, I finally brought my marlin in close enough that Capt. Dee and Bryan were able to bring the fish to the side of the boat and hold him there for me to look at. Capt. Dee sized him up to be about 10 feet 6 in. and approximately 350lbs! We released the big guy so he could go back to the great blue ocean for another day of fighting. The whole time, I had my Coasta's on, helping me keep the glare down and my eye on the prize! By 9am, I was fast asleep on the seat in the tower, needed a nap after all that! Unfortunately for Bryan, he never got the chance for his own fight that day. Poor guy, this was HIS dream trip, and he was great enough to let his fair-weather fisherwoman girlfriend, reel in all the glory. What a guy... At least it gives us another reason to head back to the beautiful shores of Hawaii!
