Julian Fisher: Colorado African Expedition 2007

Flash Title: Colorado African Expedition 2007

The Colorado African Expedition 2007 - a 21st Century Trans Africa Crossing' was a member oriented expedition, with an active multi-cultural team from points around the globe. Since Paul Louis Hoefler made the first epic journey crossing Africa in truck in 1928-1929, adventurers from around the globe have been drawn to the African continent. The expedition followed as close as possible the exact route of Mr. Hoefler's 1928-29 Colorado African Expedition, using the 'chapter by chapter' text of Mr. Hoefler's classic adventure tale, 'Africa Speaks - A Story of Adventure', as a guide. Starting in January and ending in March of 2007, the adventure began in Mombasa, Kenya, on the Indian Ocean, and will finish at the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Expedition leader, Julian Fisher, and his team were sent off on Jan. 19, by the Mayor and village council of Gars Am Kamp, Austria, the base of operations for The Colorado African Expedition of 2007.

... to bring global focus upon the realities, the cultures, the peoples and the wildlife, on the African continent. Along the way, the team researched the devastating effects upon the cultures as well as the diminishing wildlife and how these are directly a result of the HIV/AIDS epidemic plaguing the innocent people of the countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They focused their research upon the same indigenous people and their cultures as well as the wildlife populations that Mr. Hoefler encountered along his journey. The real irony, Mr. Hoefler was a safari hunter that probably led indirectly to the demise of the animal populations that were abundant in the 1920's across the continent in his attempt to bring a piece of Africa back to the developed world.

... to bring global focus upon the environmental impact of close to a century of tourism and political uncertainty and their impact upon the culture, the people, and the wildlife of the African continent.

... to bring global focus upon the humanitarian organizations that are extending aid in the regions the expedition traveled through and the role of their respective missions. They studied their effectiveness as well as their possible ineffectiveness as they pertain to perpetuating the cultures of the peoples of the African continent.

... to bring global focus upon the media of the African continent and their free speech and openness to report within the territories of the countries the expedition traveled through.

... to bring global focus upon what the future holds for the cultures, the peoples, and the wildlife populations of the African continent.
